The Book of Jubilees (Lesser Genesis - Apocrypha Works PART 1)

Hi, and thank you for joining me at 144Judah!  We are now starting on "The Book of the Jubilees" which is also known by some as "Lesser Genesis". I will be doing this study in conjunction with "Exodus" (The second book in the Torah).

Here is the description at the beginning of the text:

Moses receives the tables of the law and instruction on past and future history which he is to inscribe in a book, 1-4. Apostasy of Israel,5-9. Captivity of Israel and Judah, 10-13. Return of Judah and rebuilding of the temple, 15-18. Moses' prayer for Israel, 19-21. God's promise to redeem and dwell with them, 22-5, 28. Moses bidden to write down the future history of the world (the Book of Jubilees?), 26. And an angel to write down the law, 27. This angel takes the heavenly chronological tablets to dictate therefrom to Moses, 29.
THIS is the history of the division of the days of the law and of the testimony, of the events of the years, of their (year) weeks, of their Jubilees throughout all the years of the world, as the Lord spake to Moses on Mount Sinai when he went up to receive the tables of the law and of the commandment, according to the voice of God as he said unto him, 'Go up to the top of the Mount.'

WHAT?

Ok...So, remember how we different works in the bible that were there but were taken out? Remember how we have different days that are "feast days" and such? Well, we really haven't been able to get to the "feast days" yet in this blog since we are doing a very in-depth study, but... that is coming, I promise you as we are almost to Leviticus. However, I will tell you this, the bible is very numerical. We like to call it "Godcode". So, remember how in the past we talked about the 70 x 7s? And how Abraham was the 14th Generation from Adam, and the 7th from Noah?  Well, this book is all about the numbers, which is funny because there is an actual book all about numbers called.... you guessed it: Numbers.

This book talks about the Jubilees.

What is a Jubilee?

From Wikipedia: The Jubilee (Hebrew: יובל yōḇel; Yiddish: yoyvl) is the year at the end of seven cycles of shmita (Sabbatical years), and, according to biblical regulations, had a special impact on the ownership and management of land in the Land of Israel. According to the Book of Leviticus, Hebrew slaves and prisoners would be freed, debts would be forgiven, and the mercies of God would be particularly manifest.

Rabbinic literature mentions a dispute between the Sages and Rabbi Yehuda over whether it was the 49th year (the last year of seven sabbatical cycles, referred to as the Sabbath's Sabbath), or whether it was the following (50th) year.[1] The Jubilee ("Year of Release") deals largely with land, property, and property rights.

The biblical rules concerning Sabbatical years are still observed by many religious Jews in Israel, but the regulations for the Jubilee year have not been observed for many centuries. According to the post-exile rabbinic interpretation of Torah, observance of Jubilee only applied when the Jewish people live in the land of Israel according to their tribes. Thus, with the exile of the tribes of ReubenGad, and Manasseh (about 600 BCE), Jubilee has not been applicable.[2]

Leviticus 25:8–13 states:

You shall count off seven Sabbaths of years, seven times seven years; and there shall be to you the days of seven Sabbaths of years, even forty-nine years. Then you shall sound the loud trumpet on the tenth day of the seventh month. On the Day of Atonement you shall sound the trumpet throughout all your land. You shall make the fiftieth year holy, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee to you; and each of you shall return to his own property, and each of you shall return to his family. That fiftieth year shall be a jubilee to you. In it you shall not sow, neither reap that which grows of itself, nor gather from the undressed vines. For it is a jubilee; it shall be holy to you. You shall eat of its increase out of the field. In this Year of Jubilee each of you shall return to his property. (WEB)

Ancient Near Eastern societies regularly declared noncommercial debts void, typically at the coronation of a new king or at the king’s order.[6] Biblical scholars once argued that the Jubilee was an obvious development of the Sabbatical year.[7] Rather than waiting for the 50th or 49th year, the Deuteronomic Code requires that Hebrew slaves be liberated during their 7th year of service,[8] as does the Covenant Code,[9] which some textual scholars regard as pre-dating the Holiness code;[10] the Book of Ezekiel, which some textual scholars also regard as earlier than the Holiness Code, refers to a year of liberty (שנת דרור), during which property is returned to the original owner (or their heirs),[11] (earlier written mentioning in Sum: ama-gi, ama-ar-gi, 'return to the mother') but the word דרור is used by Jeremiah to describe the release of slaves during the Sabbatical year,[12] which various scholars take to imply that Ezekiel must have been referring to the sabbatical year.[7] Scholars suspect that the transfer of these regulations to 49th or 50th year was a deliberate attempt to parallel the fact that Shavuot is 50 days after Passover, and follows seven weeks of harvest;[7] this parallel is regarded as significant in Kabbalah.[13]

SUPER FUN AND AMAZING GOOD NEWS FACT

THIS YEAR IS A SUPER SCHMITA! Which means that we are in the 7, 7s and this is the 50th year! This year is called "The Year of the Open Door"

In the Jewish calendar, 5784 is indeed a significant year. Let me share some insights:

  1. Year of Open Doors: According to prophetic interpretations, 5784 is considered a year of open doors. The number 4 in Hebrew represents a door, and this year is associated with opportunities, breakthroughs, and new beginnings. Acts 10 in the Bible tells the story of Peter and Cornelius, emphasizing how God opened doors for the spread of His Word. Peter’s obedience led to acceptance of non-Jews into the early church, symbolizing open doors for all 1.

  2. Unique Leap Year: Technically known as a shanah meuberet (meaning “pregnant year”), 5784 is a Jewish leap year 2. In leap years, an extra month (Adar II) is added to align the lunar and solar calendars.

  3. Jubilee Year: Historically speaking, 5784 is also a Jubilee year on the biblical calendar. The Jubilee occurs every 50 years and signifies restoration, release of debts, and freedom 3. It’s a time of celebration and divine favor.

  4. Rosh Hashanah 2023: Rosh Hashanah, which marks the beginning of 5784, falls on September 15, 2023. It’s celebrated as the head of the Jewish year, and blowing the shofar (ram’s horn) is a central observance 4.

So, whether you view it as a year of open doors, a leap year, or a Jubilee, 5784 holds spiritual significance and promises blessings. 🌟🔑🚪

Let's get back to the Text... So, We will do the Book of the Jubilees today...

[Chapter 1]
My commentary will be in BOLD and with Parentheses :)

The Book Of Jubilees Chapter 1

YAHWEH (THE MOST HIGH) Call Mosheh (MOSES) up to the Mountain to give the account of the division of the days in Jubilees

1 And it came to pass in the first year of the exodus of the children of Yisrael out of Egypt, in the third month, on the sixteenth day of the month, [2450 Anno Mundi] (May 16th, 2450) (Year of the world of creation) that YAHWEH spoke to Mosheh, saying: 'Come up to Me on the Mount, and I will give you two tables of stone of the Torah and of the commandment, which I have written, that you may teach them.'

2 And Mosheh went up into the mount of YAHWEH, and the splendor of YAHWEH abode on Mount Sinai, and a cloud overshadowed it six days.

3 And He called to Mosheh on the seventh day out of the midst of the cloud, and the appearance of the splendor of YAHWEH was like a flaming fire on the top of the mount.

4 And Mosheh was on the Mount forty days and forty nights, and YAHWEH taught him the earlier and the later history of the division of all the days of the Torah and of the testimony.

5 And He said: 'Incline your heart to every word which I shall speak to you on this mount, and write them in a book in order that their generations may see how I have not forsaken them for all the evil which they have wrought in transgressing the covenant which I establish between Me and you for their generations this day on Mount Sinai.

6 And thus it will come to pass when all these things come upon them, that they will recognize that I am more righteous than they in all their judgments and in all their actions, and they will recognize that I have been truly with them.

7 And do you write for yourself all these words which I declare unto, you this day, for I know their rebellion and their stiff neck, before I bring them into the land of which I swore to their fathers, to Abraham and to Yitschaq (Isaac) and to Yacob, saying: ' Unto your seed will I give a land flowing with milk and honey.

8 And they will eat and be satisfied, and they will turn to strange gods, to (gods) which cannot deliver them from aught of their tribulation: and this witness shall be heard for a witness against them. For they will forget all My commandments, (even) all that I command them, and they will walk after the Gentiles, and after their uncleanness, and after their shame, and will serve their gods, and these will prove unto them an offence and a tribulation and an affliction and a snare.

10 And many will perish and they will be taken captive, and will fall into the hands of the enemy, because they have forsaken My ordinances and My commandments, and the festivals of My covenant, and My Shabbats, and My kodesh place which I have hallowed for Myself in their midst, and My tabernacle, and My sanctuary, which I have hallowed for Myself in the midst of the land, that I should set MY NAME upon it, and that it should dwell (there).

11 And they will make to themselves high places and groves and graven images, and they will worship, each his own (graven image), so as to go astray, and they will sacrifice their children to demons, and to all the works of the error of their hearts.

12 And I will send witnesses unto them, that I may witness against them, but they will not hear, and will slay the witnesses also, and they will persecute those who seek the torah, and they will abrogate and change everything so as to work evil before My eyes.

13 And I will hide My face from them, and I will deliver them into the hand of the Gentiles for captivity, and for a prey, and for devouring, and I will remove them from the midst of the land, and I will scatter them amongst the Gentiles.

14 And they will forget all My Torah and all My commandments and all My judgments, and will go astray as to new months, and Shabbats, and festivals, and jubilees, and ordinances.

15 And after this they will turn to Me from amongst the Gentiles with all their heart and with all their soul and with all their strength, and I will gather them from amongst all the Gentiles, and they will seek me, so that I shall be found of them, when they seek me with all their heart and with all their soul.

16 And I will disclose to them abounding shalom with righteousness, and I will remove them the plant of uprightness, with all My heart and with all My soul, and they shall be for a blessing and not for a curse, and they shall be the head and not the tail.

17 And I will build My sanctuary in their midst, and I will dwell with them, and I will be YAHWEH their Sovereign Ruler and they shall be My people in truth and righteousness.

18 And I will not forsake them nor fail them; for I am YAHWEH their Sovereign Ruler.'

19 And Mosheh fell on his face and prayed and said, 'O YAHWEH my Sovereign Ruler, do not forsake Your people and Your inheritance, so that they should wander in the error of their hearts, and do not deliver them into the hands of their enemies, the Gentiles, lest they should rule over them and cause them to sin against You.

20 Let your mercy, O YAHWEH, be lifted up upon Your people, and create in them an upright spirit, and let not the spirit of Belial rule over them to accuse them before You, and to ensnare them from all the paths of righteousness, so that they may perish from before Your face.

21 But they are Your people and Your inheritance, which you have delivered with your great power from the hands of the Egyptians: create in them a clean heart and a kodesh spirit, and let them not be ensnared in their sins from henceforth until eternity.'

22 And YAHWEH said to Mosheh: 'I know their contrariness and their thoughts and their stiffneckedness, and they will not be obedient till they confess their own sin and the sin of their fathers. (Have to give it to Moses for trying...)

23 And after this they will turn to Me in all uprightness and with all their heart and with all their soul, and I will circumcise the foreskin of their heart and the foreskin of the heart of their seed, (This is the spiritual making of a Jew...Meaning he will make them His sons and daughters. This is Israel.) and I will create in them a kodesh spirit, and I will cleanse them so that they shall not turn away from Me from that day unto eternity.

24 And their souls will cleave to Me and to all My commandments, and they will fulfill My commandments, and I will be their ABBA (Father) and they shall be My children.

25 And they all shall be called children of the living YAHWEH, and every malak (Angel/Messenger) and every spirit shall know, yes, they shall know that these are My children, and that I am their ABBA (Father) in uprightness and righteousness, and that I love them.

26 And do you write down for yourself all these words which I declare unto you on this mountain, the first and the last, which shall come to pass in all the divisions of the days in the Torah and in the testimony and in the weeks and the jubilees unto eternity, until I descend and dwell with them throughout eternity.'

27 And He said to the malak (Angel/Messenger) of the presence: Write for Mosheh from the beginning of creation till My sanctuary has been built among them for all eternity.

28 And YAHWEH will appear to the eyes of all, and all shall know that I am the Sovereign Ruler of Yisrael (ISRAEL) and the ABBA (FATHER) of all the children of Yacob (JACOB), and King on Mount Zion for all eternity. And Zion and Yerusalem shall be kodesh. (THE INNER SANCTUARY- THE HOLY OF HOLIES)'

29 And the malak (ANGEL/MESSENGER) of the presence who went before the camp of Yisrael took the tables of the divisions of the years -from the time of the creation- of the Torah and of the testimony of the weeks of the jubilees, according to the individual years, according to all the number of the jubilees [according, to the individual years], from the day of the [new] creation when the heavens and the earth shall be renewed and all their creation according to the powers of the heaven, and according to all the creation of the earth, until the sanctuary of YAHWEH shall be made in Yerusalem on Mount Zion, and all the luminaries (Luminaries are described in the Bible as the sun, moon, and stars which God created on the fourth day to separate day from night and be for signs and seasons) be renewed for healing and for shalom (used as salutation by Jewish people at meeting or parting, meaning “peace.”) and for blessing for all the elect of Yisrael, and that thus it may be from that day and unto all the days of the earth.

So, this is the first Chapter of Jubilees.  We are getting a setup of what is happening. Moses is sitting with God on top of the mountain and God is talking to an angel and setting up these tablets... (10 Commandments) And is talking about the entire beginning of creation all the way until the making of the Arc of the Covenant. "Verse 26: "And He said to the angel of the presence: Write for Moses from the beginning of creation till My sanctuary has been built among them for all eternity." So he is giving us Genesis, and Exodus- (The Entire Torah.... Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy)  He is giving us all this information, so we know how much God loves us. How He has been merciful, how He has been understanding and He tells us of the promises He has made to us and the Covenant. He is giving us the timeline.
