The Pentateuch - The Torah -

The Pentateuch, or Torah, is the collection of stories brought to us by Moses. It is all about THE BEGINNING, Adam and Eve, The Flood, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and The Twelve Tribes (Children of Israel, the Exodus (Moses) and the time before entering the Promised Land... The books also bring us "God's Law" or as we know it "The Ten Commandments" which were given on Mt Sinai to Moses by God Himself. Included as well is info on sacrifices, worshiping, feast dates and rituals.

Genesis:

Who wrote it? Moses... Moses is said to have written the first five books of the Old Testament (Christian Bible) The first five books are also called "Torah" as a collection or "Pentateuch" in Hebrew.

Fun fact: Written in Hebrew... originally, then translated and mistranslated and... well you get the picture.

When was it written? 1446-1406 BC...

Genesis tells us all about Creation, the downfall of that and the flood (Noah's story) This goes from Chapter 1 all the way through Chapter 11.

Then we move on to Abraham, in Chapter 12 which lasts all the way through 25.

Issac, Abraham and Sarah's son, starts 26, and we go all the way until 36 which brings us Jacob as well (Father of the 12 Tribes of Israel.

Joseph comes in at 37-50.

One of my favorite verses in Genesis:    Genesis 5:24 "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him."

I know it's a weird one to favorite, but it leads into one of my favorite books from the Dead Sea Scrolls... The Book of Enoch. So much to uncover here... I will do a separate blog later on The Book of Enoch.

Exodus:

Who wrote it? Moses

Fun fact: The Great Pyramid of Giza contains 2.3 million individual blocks of stone. This pyramid was already built before Moses was there. In fact, Moses was said to be there beetween 3-4000 BCE and The Great Pyramid dates back to 4-10,000 BCE. DO you still think the pyramids were built by men?

When? c 1446 BC-1406BC

This is my personal favorite book of the Torah.

Moses is talked about from Chapters 1-7, his birth, his life, his wife and journey...

The Plagues go from 8-13

Then we have The Exodus (14-18) Super cool part as the Red Sea Parts and you can just imagine all the chariots and the people and the struggle.

The Law happens from 19-24... Moses is the man. I can't imagine living during that time, doing what he did, leading all of those people from Egypt and having to deal with getting them out of the slave mentality.

Tabernacle and Worship (Chapters 25-40)

Favorite 2 Verses: "And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?  And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you."

Can you imagine? This verse really gets me. I can feel it within me when I repeat what God said. He is EVERYTHING. HE IS ALL. HE IS IT. Now that, is powerful. HE IS. Holy cow just think of that phrase and how big it is. He is it all. The beginning, the end, the .... everything. Dang.

Leviticus:

Who? Moses wrote this.

What is it about? This book is all about the Law and the sacrifice... Personally, I am not a fan of this particular book... it isn't the most exciting, but it is interesting.

When: c 1446 BC-1406 BC

This is all about teaching a lesson... Basically being good to others and how to be holy. Moses just received the ten commandments and now you are getting it and learning how to place it in your life.

The Chapters are 1-7 -- all about sacrifice - the priesthood (about Aaron and his sons) 8-10, The clean and unclean (anywhere from meat to people to animals) the Day of Atonement (Repenting for sins Chapter 16. This is where the priest does a blood sacrifice on the Mercy Seat of the Ark of the Covenant.  The only day where someone enters and sees the Ark... huge. And, only a priest can do this on this particular day.) And the laws for Daily Life (17-27)

So, Leviticus reminds me of childhood. We get these "Rules" from our parents, and we have consequences. So, God sets Moses up with the Ten Commandments and rules... what to eat, what not to eat, when and how to eat it, what not to worship and what to worship.

"Notwithstanding no devoted thing, that a man shall devote unto the Lord of all that he hath, both of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto the Lord." Leviticus 27:28

Numbers:

Who? Moses

This book is about the census and history of the borders of Canaan.

It was written around the same time as the other books c 1446 BC-1406 BC

This is all about what happens when people rebel against The Most High God.

Census is from 1-9

Then from Sinai to Canaan (Chapters 10-12)

Spies and Rebellion goes on from 13-19 and then finally to Moab (20-36)

This Book has one of my favorite verses that I always thought was Irish... "The LORD bless thee, and keep thee, The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them." Numbers 6:24-27

Deuteronomy:

Who? Moses

1446 BC-1406 BC was when it was written

This book is all about what God expects of the people and Moses is the one to tell them what that is.

There are 3 Sermons here and they go from chapter 1 all the way through 30, then there's a farewell section from 31 to 34.

A good verse for Deuteronomy is Deuteronomy 6:4-5 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might."

This is a good one as it is also what Yeshua (Jesus) brings us in the New Testament. LOVE...

The first five books set us up in our lower chakras (Energy Centers). We live in the body - we are new and God gives us our rules. We learn through cause and effect and what happens during the first five books is just that. We went from good to really bad pretty fast. God started over... Then God gives the Law unto Moses. Moses teaches the people, gives them the consequences - how to repent and make up for what we have done, and what do we do? The same stuff. But God forgives and we learn. He teaches us through the sacrificial lamb. Then, when we get to the New Testament and God gives us His son, THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB and by HIS blood we are saved. He tells us of a new covenant, but it is really the same thing simplified. Yeshua (Jesus) now shows us how to live in our Heart Chakra... so, in the Old Testament we lived in Fear (Root Chakra) Sacral (Sex/creation) and Solar Plexus (Self identity- Ego) and Yeshua (Jesus) brings us into the Heart - Tells us to Love The Lord Our God with all our hearts, minds and souls and to Love our neighbor as ourselves. If we do all of those things we shouldn't be living in fear anymore, and we shouldn't be doing anything against The Most High God. And now, 2000 years later, The Holy Spirit is here (within all of us) And if we seek HIM, HE shows us THE WAY, THE TRUTH and THE LIFE. (Pineal Gland - Third Eye, Throat - Speaking the Truth, and Crown - Our Godhead)
