Genesis Part 3: The Children and their descendants down through Noah

Hi, and thank you for subscribing to my blog 144Judah! The last entry was all about Adam and Eve and the origin of man... This one is about their children.

One of the most fascinating things that I find about Adam and Eve and their kids is that they didn't just have three kids... yet we only learn about three and really know nothing else about the others. (Talk about the red-headed stepchild...)

So, the first born of Adam and Eve was Cain. The Hebrew name meaning for him is: spear, possessed. (Honestly, it is quite fitting that we get our first murderer after the parents commit the first sin, and not only that his name means possessed.) The second son of Adam and Eve was named Able. Able's name means: a breath or passing. And of course, that meaning is fitting as well as he was the first to be murdered... And then the third son, Seth, (which comes from the Hebrew name: Sheth, which means appointed.) Once again fitting since Seth is where Noah's side comes from, and what is left of the flood. And what is really interesting about Seth is that "Appointed" would also make sense since the other sons and daughters that aren't mentioned are completely wiped out during the flood, making Seth's descendent the appointed one after the new beginning.

So, after Adam and Eve get kicked from the garden, Genesis 4 happens. "And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.

And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect.

Why did God accept Abels offering and not Cain's?

Nobody really knows but can only speculate. Even Yeshua mentions later in the bible about Abel being righteous and Cain being wicked. The reason why I highlighted "firstlings" in a few paragraphs above was because of God and his firstfruits throughout the bible. God loves the firstfruits of the season. The very best offering. The first of the flock...  Abel offered the first and the best and maybe Cain didn't. I feel like that had to be the reason why they would mention firstlings in the first place. Also, a lot of people believe that it is because Cain had an impure heart.

And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Able thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass that every one that findeth me shall slay me. And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

Remember this last part... I will talk about this later as God puts another mark on people at the End of Time...

And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

(And, of course, God doesn't do anything without meaning. The name of the Land of Nod means to live a life of wandering aimlessly. It seems like the perfect fit for someone that was banished and could never feel at home.)

And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.  And unto Enoch was born Irad; and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.  And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.

(This part is really important as this Lamech that descended from Cain, was the first to have two wives. He was also the fifth in descent from Cain. Another fun fact is that the number 5 means a transformation of man... And this next part will make you take pause since Lamech was the first person to violate the sanctity of marriage by having not just one, but two wives: Adah and Zillah. (Genesis 4:18-24) This Lamech was the father of Naamah who was the wife of Noah and the mother of Noah's children. And as if that wasn't enough...he killed his great-great grandfather Cain. So, this brings us back to the beginning of Cain which spoke of vengeance being taken on him sevenfold. Guess who doesn't make it onto the Ark? You guessed it...Lamech.

Now this brings us to Abel. Yes, we know that he was the second son, we know that his name means breath, passing, and also, according to my favorite Rabbi Daniel Lapin, his name also means zero- meaning he didn't accomplish anything. Which also makes sense because he wasn't around really long enough to do anything because of him being murdered.

We don't know really much else of Able other than he pleased God with his offering.

(Sorry Abel...)

Now we are to learn about Seth. Seth was born when Adam was one hundred and thirty years old. (And here I thought I was old at 23 and 29 when I had my two kids) We find this all out in Genesis 5:3. We also find out that Adam lived 930 years!

One very interesting verse to me in the bible is back a few verses in Genesis 4:25: "And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew." This sounds like Seth and Abel are Adam and Eve's kids but maybe Cain isn't. Maybe...Lucifer gave her his fruit... What do you think?

Another fun fact about all of this is the "begat" section of the bible. Remember how I told you the names were important? This is why we learn about who had who... because their names have meaning, and that meaning is tied to the generation of the people that lived during that time. Here we see two groups of people being born: The Cain Generations and The Seth Generations... Now, each of the names of the first born kids of each generation mean something and can tell us how and when the downfall of man takes place.

What do we know about this time? We know that Cain wasn't good, and that as his generation grew, the people got worse with sin.

The Generations after Seth...

Enosh- Man (Mortal/ Weak or Sick)

Cainan- Possession or Acquirer

Mahalaleel- Spiritual Praising

Jared-Decline/descends.

Enoch-dedicated trained disciplined (Enoch was the one who walked with God and then was not... He ascended to Heaven without dying. A lot of people attribute Enoch to being the angel Metatron.)

Methuselah- One who was sent. (The oldest living person in the bible. Also, was sent to tell Noah about the Ark.)

Lamech- This Lamech means strong.

Noah- Rest

Shem: Express faith/ unique or fame.

Ham- Hot or warm

Japheth- May he expand.

(The red denotes the only people to make it after the flood.)

Generations of Cain:

Enoch- Initiated/inaugurated

Irad-rebellious/ bad seed/ grandson of Cain

Mehujael- Smitten or destroyed by God

Methusael- Man of God

Lamech- Low/ pleasure (First person in the bible to have two wives) Killed his great-great grandfather, Cain. (Surely he would be cursed 70x7)

(Son with Adah) Jabal- (Dwell in tents or have cattle)

And Jabal's brother was Jubal- he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.

(Son with Zillah) Tubal-Cain- an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron.

Sister of Tubal-Cain and Lamech's daughter - Naamah means pleasant (Although, in some old Jewish texts Noah's wife isn't named.)

Are you wondering why I put the names of the people from the begat section and their meanings here yet? Well...this all ties into our current timeline. We also have names for the generations that describe us as a people...

  • The Greatest Generation or the G.I. Generation: born 1901 to 1927
  • The Silent Generation: born 1928 to 1945
  • Baby Boomers: born 1946 to 1964
  • Generation X or Thirteeners: born 1965 to 1980
  • Millennials or Generation Y: born 1981 to 1996
  • Generation Z or iGen: born 1997 to 2012
  • Generation Alpha: born 2013 to 2025

What does this tell us? This tells us why we are going into another downfall... another Days of Noah scenario. I find it interesting as well that I couldn't find a name for a generation before 1901... and there were seven generations from Adam to the flood with Noah.... As there are also seven here.  Coincidence? There's no such thing as coincidence, and not surprisingly there is no word in Hebrew (God's language) that means coincidence.
